A Miami-Dade County commissioner unveils a new plan to build a Major League Soccer stadium in Miami.
Commissioner Xavier Suarez released a rendering of a 40,000-seat stadium adjacent to Marlins Park in Little Havana. The plan would require Miami-Dade County or the City of Miami to acquire small parcels of land along NW 17th Avenue immediately to the west of Marlins Park. Suarez also says "minor" changes would need to be made to NW 17th Avenue.
Suarez says the proposal has the support of Miami mayor Tomas Regalado and a handful of City of Miami commissioners.
David Beckham's ownership group has not commented on the stadium proposal. Beckham co-investor Simon Fuller has called the Marlins Park site "spiritually tainted" and Major League Soccer has dismissed the location as unsuitable.
