Pool Safety Law Being Considered In Miami-Dade County

A new push is being made in Miami-Dade County to prevent further swimming pool shocks and electrocutions from happening again.

Commissioners are getting set to vote on an ordinance that would require all swimming pools in South Florida -- public and private -- to ban the use of high voltage lights.

Most public pools are restricted to using 15-volt lights, however private pools do not have those restrictions, and some lights could be as high as 120 volts...which could be deadly.

The measure comes after several incidents where kids were either shocked or electrocuted.

The ordinance will be voted on next Tuesday at County Commission. If passed, would go into effect by end of the year.
